JoMary Riders Monthly Report – November 2009

The first snow of the season fell on October 13 on the Katahdin range and on Jo Mary Mtn. I truly hope that winters main thrust holds off until mid December to give us time to get our trails in order. On a sad note, we have been officially notified that Township A Range 11 is closed for grooming purposes for this winter and probably for good. Our trail to B Pond will remain open but the section of trail from the V plow to ITS 86 (via the Yoke Ponds) and the “warming hut” trail will both be closed. Great riding there will just be a memory. As of this writing, 10/16/09 we are still waiting to start the new trail over Potaywadjo Ridge….lots of work to do and nobody available (yet) to do it. Same story for the new trail that will run to Millinocket, the trail is all flagged but not a single tree has been cut. I can say that the new “West Side” trail to Wildwoods has been started by a crew from Wildwoods and by Daryl Cote and crew from the Ebeemee Club. Many thanks!

Our long time club secretary/treasurer, Vaughn Bouchard, has decided to step down after 7 years. Many thanks to him for all of his volunteer hours and for his accurate accounting of every dollar that has ever passed through our accounts! Another long time member, Pat Catell, has agreed to take over Vaughn’s position. I look forward to working with her during the upcoming season.

That’s all for now. There’s something to be said for short & sweet.
